BRF Episode 27: “Prank”

This episode got us punning on the fly, talking about a poltergeist from our (and your) collective childhoods, morbid humour in a dictatorship, our favourite redhead Rick Astley along with activist of vegetarianism and little known mathematician Pythagorus and his prank cup!

Ragini took one for the team and endured numerous rick rolls to research the history the rick roll. You think you know what that would entail but Ragini takes us into the murky depth of duck-rolling, egg rolls and 4Chan. We then move on to the poltergeists from all our childhoods – Peeves! Also we briefly discuss what cocktail helps spawn poltergeists.

We reminisce about Peeves’ devious pranks and go back into the history of Hogwarts to a time when someone tried to get rid of Peeves with a plan that included a Bell Jar, medieval weapons and a containment charm followed by a lengthy list of demands, as is reasonable. We also briefly discuss the benefits and necessity of gloating – what’s your take on that?

We talk about Pythagoras’ prank cup. Learn how the Greek mathematician was famous for basically two things – one of which was the cup. Totally believable. We also covered the legend of Tantalus, which was quite a shift in mood for Ragini when she heard the words “his boiled son”. Can we blame her really?

And finally we discuss an Iraqi obsession with April Fools day! Didn’t think we’d say those words in that order ever! This bit, we discuss the family of Husseins and their particular affinity for pranks.

What’s the most fun prank you’ve had played on you or by you? Let us know!
