BRF Episode 25: “Power”

In this episode, we talk about a gun toting shrimp, a broken circle and a vertical stroke, the tapestry of 80s, 90s pop culture that is the Powerpuff Girls and how Iceland heats …. literally everything!

So we were all obsessed with the Powerpuff Girls, right? Right? Are we hearing crickets from everyone save for the 90s kids? Nevermind, we’ll take it! Ragini took us through some interesting factlets about the Powerpuff Girls that we weren’t aware of earlier. If you know the answer to “What was Buttercups secret superpower?” then we give you full leave to skip this fact. Listen to more about it in the episode! We also made a deal with you to give you all the lowdown on the hands we shook, and the hands we didn’t on our journey to the top of the world of animation. That’s a story for another time though.

And just in case you were wondering – Shar wonders often about geothermal energy and why everyone she knows is going on holiday to Iceland. Jealous. Anyway, there’s a segment about how Icelandic people love to heat everything. Eh-ve-ry-thing!

Now coming to the broken circle and the vertical line – which Shar somehow managed to make dirty – Ragini took us through the interesting history of this very common symbol that we see every single day – if not multiple times a day. What’s up is on and what’s down is off or was it the other way round? We’re not sure – Ragini explains it better!

This episode also includes a little dramatic storytelling that goes: Let me tell you about a gun-toting cannibalistic shrimp called Hank. <Cue the Old Western music.> Picture this - the sun has set on this here little underwater town. Hank the Shrimp, chews his toothpick with a vengeance, his moustache <stay with me!> wiggling with each chew. Not a funny moustache wiggle – more like a menacing moustache wiggle, yeah menacing. His claws are stretched ahead of him, gently undulating in the watery depths. He stalks murky, streets with disturbed silt - looking for prey. And then he spots him – Gary humming to himself, trawling the silty floor for food. He won’t know what hit him, the fool. As Gary hums imbecilically to himself, Hank loads his weaponised claw. Gary doesn’t stand a chance. Hank cocks his distinctive claw back and “fires” repeatedly. Gary’s dead – his last thought arrested before he could resolve it - was that stick actually a stick or was it something I could eat? The water dulls the sound of Hank dragging Gary’s body into his lair – a treat for a weary hunter.

More on that in the episode!

Episode Note:

In our episode, Shar mentions Kenyan athletes and how the environment has shaped their skill as runners in reference to one of our previous episodes. We’ve incorrectly said the episode was Roof. The episode is in fact – Speed.
